Alternative Engineering Solutions: Welcome

Rope Ladder Access

In this instance we can see at the top there are trees covering the top of the cliff. This shows Rock mesh can be installed from the bottom up in this case using rope ladders.

Materials required for the Rock mesh installation on Berry Hill quarry face can also be delivered to the bottom of the cliff face & any then tree which doesn't present a safety risk to those living below can then be saved.

Cherry Picker

Using a Cherry Picker or lifting arm similar to which is shown in this photo can also be used to install the Rock mesh.

Again working & delivering materials to the bottom of the cliff. If MDC use a similar method here in Berry Hill Quarry no roadway along the cliff top needs to be built saving the majority of the trees along the cliff top.

Halcrow Report

The Halcrow report (full report can be found on the news page) quotes in the section of the report 6.1.4 Vegetation Management that in only the trees along a 5m strip immediately upslope of the cliff edge along sections 6-12 are recommended for clearance as part of the risk mitigation measures.

The Halcrow report also recommends along section 13-19 of the cliff the that the scots pines are thinned & replaced with Ash trees.

No mention for the need to have a permanent access road along the back of properites along Berry Hill Road & ruin the character of the area for everyone forever.
